Steven Hetts, MD is Co-Chief of the Neuro Endovascular Surgery Service Line and Chief of Interventional Neuroradiology at UCSF, where he provides endovascular surgical therapy for children and adults with stroke, cerebrovascular disease, and tumors.

Dr. Hetts is Co-Director of the UCSF Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Center of Excellence, through which he cares for patients with vascular malformations of the brain and other organs and participates in the CHORUS study.

As Co-Director of the Interventional Radiology Research Laboratory, Dr. Hetts develops novel medical devices and techniques, including multi-organ ferumoxytol MRI for patients with HHT through the Department of Defense-supported AVIATOR study and toxicity-reducing ChemoFilters developed with the support of the National Institutes of Health.

An active member of the Academic Senate, Dr. Hetts served as faculty representative to the UC Regents Health Services Committee from 2018–2020 and Chair of the UCSF Division of the Academic Senate from 2023–2025. He also serves on the Academic Advisory Board of the UC National Center for Free Speech and Public Engagement.

Dr. Hetts earned an MD from Harvard Medical School and an AB from Harvard College. He completed a medical internship at Stanford and diagnostic radiology residency, diagnostic neuroradiology fellowship, and interventional neuroradiology fellowship at UCSF, where he joined the faculty in 2008.

Dr. Adrienne Hammill developed an interest in genetic conditions associated with cancer prior to college. During hematology-oncology fellowship training, clinical experience caring for patients with known cancer predispositions involving PTEN and vascular malformations expanded this interest to include genetic conditions causing vascular tumors and vascular malformations.

This led to joining the Hemangioma and Vascular Malformations Center (HVMC) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center as part of a distinguished multidisciplinary team focused on the care of patients with vascular anomalies.

As the understanding of the genetic basis of vascular anomalies rapidly evolved, Dr. Hammill worked to develop and direct specialized clinical programs, helping achieve designation as both a Sturge-Weber Clinical Care Network Center of Excellence and a Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Center of Excellence.

Dr. Hammill currently serves as Research Director of HVMC and as site Principal Investigator for multiple industry-sponsored clinical trials focused on targeted therapies for vascular anomalies.

Through ongoing collaboration with basic scientists, clinical colleagues across the United States and internationally, and pharmaceutical partners, Dr. Hammill continues to advance the identification and development of new therapeutic approaches for patients with vascular anomalies.

She has also been an active participant in the Brain Vascular Malformations Consortium, contributing to both the Sturge-Weber syndrome program and the HHT program within the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network.

Dr. Hammill is recognized as a leader in the treatment of vascular anomalies, with a strong focus on translating advances in genetic and molecular discovery into clinical care.

Dr. Marambaud is Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Memory Disorders & Vascular Biology at the Feinstein Institutes, Northwell Health, in New York. He received his PhD in Biology from the University of Nice/Sophia-Antipolis, France, in 1998, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York in 2000. He launched his faculty career at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2004, subsequently moving to the Feinstein Institutes in Manhasset, New York, as Laboratory Director in 2005.

For over two decades, Dr. Marambaud has dedicated his research to unraveling the molecular basis of neuronal degeneration in Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. In 2015, his laboratory significantly diversified its focus to encompass Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT). Within this area, his lab is actively engaged in developing innovative human cell and mouse models of HHT with the goal of identifying effective drug repurposing strategies and novel disease-modifying interventions.

This includes the creation of a novel HHT mouse model using blocking antibodies to mediate BMP9 and BMP10 loss-of-function. A testament to his team's translational impact, they were instrumental in pinpointing tacrolimus, sirolimus, and nintedanib as promising drug candidates for HHT, all of which are now progressing through clinical trials to assess their efficacy in patients.

Dr. Oh, a PhD graduate from Harvard Medical School, has significantly advanced HHT research. His postdoctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital was instrumental in establishing genetically engineered mouse models of HHT.

At the University of Florida, he developed HHT models with clinical features utilizing Acvrl1, Eng, and Smad4 conditional knockout lines.

Dr. Oh is recognized for pioneering real-time imaging techniques that continuously monitor AVM development and progression in these models.

Since transferring to Barrow Neurological Institute in 2017, he has continued his research on HHT and brain AVMs. He recently identified Bmp10 as the critical physiological ligand in ENG-ALK1 signaling, offering key insights into HHT pathogenesis.

Dedicated to patient benefit, Dr. Oh collaborates with pharmaceutical companies to test novel therapeutic drugs in preclinical HHT models.

He actively supports the HHT community through leadership roles in Cure HHT committees and international HHT conferences.

Dr. Cassi Friday received her PhD in Physiology from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine where she studied a genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer’s disease and how it affects cellular immunometabolism.

Dr. Friday has been involved with Cure HHT as a volunteer for close to a decade, offering support to the organization on behalf of her husband and two of their three children who have HHT.

Dr. Friday is now the Director of Research Programs and Grants for Cure HHT and is very happy to passionately pursue a cure for HHT.

Marianne S. Clancy, MPA

Marianne S. Clancy has served as CEO of Cure HHT for more than two decades, leading major advances in HHT research, clinical care, advocacy, and global collaboration.

Under her leadership, Cure HHT launched its research grant program, helping leverage nearly $60 million in public and private HHT research investment and supporting the development of clinical trials and new therapeutic approaches.

Marianne played a key role in establishing and expanding HHT Centers of Excellence worldwide, advancing access to expert care and genetic testing for patients and families affected by HHT.

She has led international guideline initiatives, legislative advocacy efforts, and the continued growth of the International Scientific Conferences in HHT. In 2022, she helped launch Cure HHT’s therapeutic development initiative focused on accelerating research translation and treatment development for the global HHT community.
